Usually not for that claim by itself, but that is a practice, not a protection. Most carriers do not surcharge a single policy over one hail or wind claim. That is a choice they make, not a law that stops them.
This matters because of what you will hear from contractors. After a storm, a lot of people knocking on doors in Omaha will tell you it is illegal for your insurance company to raise your rates over an act of God. Search it yourself and you will find that claim repeated on dozens of roofing company blogs.
We could not find a Nebraska statute that says that, and we are not aware of one. If somebody tells you your rate is legally protected, ask them to show you the law. A contractor who will invent a legal protection to get you to sign today will invent other things later.
Hail and wind are not your fault, so most carriers do not raise your individual premium over one weather claim. But there is no guarantee, and there are real ways your bill goes up anyway.
Call your agent and ask directly: was this increase caused by my claim, or was it a regional adjustment? Agents will answer that question honestly when you ask it that plainly. Most homeowners never ask, assume the worst, and then avoid filing a legitimate claim the next time.
The Nebraska Department of Insurance offers a straightforward test: if you believe the repairs will cost less than your deductible, consider not filing. Three hail dings and a $2,500 deductible is not a claim. You would pay the deductible yourself, and the claim goes on your record against your address for nothing.
File for real damage. Do not file for cosmetic damage. Any roofer worth hiring will tell you honestly which one you have, even when the honest answer costs them the job.
Tell us what happened and we will look at it. If the honest answer is that you should not file, we will tell you that too. We will reach out within one business day to set up your free in-person inspection.
