Papillion runs its own building department, its own permit system, and its own online portal. Here is what that actually means when you are getting a roof done.
Papillion is not covered by Omaha's building department and it is not covered by Sarpy County's either. It runs its own.
Papillion has adopted the 2018 International Residential Code and International Building Code, the same editions as Omaha and La Vista. Bellevue is on the 2021 editions, which is worth knowing if you own property in more than one of them.
Papillion issues residential re-roof permits through an online portal, and most permits are issued automatically once submitted and paid for.
That online system is genuinely convenient, and it is also worth understanding, because it means a permit being pulled quickly is not evidence that anyone reviewed your job carefully. The permit is the paperwork. The workmanship is separate.
The Papillion building and fire safety department is at 122 E 3rd Street, Papillion, NE 68046, and the number is 402-597-2072. If a contractor tells you a permit is not needed for your job, you can confirm that yourself in one phone call.
Ask whether the permit is included in the price and who is pulling it. A contractor who wants you to pull the permit for your own roof is asking you to take on the liability for their work. That is a real signal.
Papillion gets the same hail the rest of the metro gets, and it gets the same wave of out of state contractors afterward. If somebody knocks on your door, here is what to ask them before anyone goes up on your roof.
We have worked the Omaha metro since 2004 out of 1713 Cuming St. A second opinion on a bid costs you nothing, and we will tell you when the bid you already have is a good one.
